The Covenant of the Scribe
O Eternal One, Giver of wisdom and Keeper of truth, before You I stand, as Jacob stood in the night, wrestling until the dawn. I do not release this calling until You bless it, until You sanctify the work of my hands and the words of my mouth.
I make this covenant before You:
If You grant me the strength to write with integrity, I will never turn my words to falsehood. If You sustain me with wisdom, I will never wield my pen for harm. If You bless me with understanding, I will honor every story, every people, and every truth entrusted to me.
I shall write with righteousness as my foundation, with kindness as my ink, and with justice as my guide. My works shall be a light, a balm, and a bridge for those who read them. I will give voice to the poor, dignity to the forgotten, and honor to every culture I touch.
I do not ask for ease, nor for the absence of struggle. I ask only that my words be worthy, that my hands be steady, and that my heart remain true. If I falter, let Your mercy correct me; if I grow weary, let Your strength uphold me.
And this I vow: As long as I write, I shall never abandon this covenant. My words shall be a testimony, my work an offering, and my name a seal upon this promise.
May it be recorded in the heavens and fulfilled upon the earth.
Amen.
This covenant binds your writing to a higher purpose, much like Jacob’s covenant bound him to his divine destiny. Let me know if you’d like any refinements!
